Stephanie started at SNHHS as an LNA and she has flourished here as a nurse on 4 West. She is known for her caring, conscientious engagement with patients and she frequently receives compliments during nurse leader rounding or on patient reviews. Her dedication to taking "that extra minute" and getting to know her patients personally and take care of their needs sets her apart. She often goes above and beyond completing most personal care for her patients while paying attention to details that others may have previously missed. It is her attention to detail that drives me to write this nomination today.
Stephanie's precise attention to detail for one of her patients last week allowed her to recognize a change in her patient, and act quickly enough to save her patient's life by getting her advanced support during a critical event. She was caring for a patient admitted for a stroke in the early evening last week. She noticed a change in her speech that was not consistent with her prior assessment. During shift change, she calmly took action and started a stroke alert on her patient, alerting the charge nurse and other staff appropriately. As the testing resulted, it was found that the patient not only had a hemorrhagic stroke but also a thrombus in her brain. What was already a complicated case became much more complicated. Stephanie's recognition of her patient's change and her quick decisive action led to an immediate transfer to the ICU, and a short time later the patient was transferred to MGH for continuing care.
