Our world was turned upside down when our son had to be admitted to the Pedi Unit with Pneumonia. He was fortunate to have this amazing nurse on several shifts who took the time to explain things in a clear, concise manner, which is exactly what two overwhelmed parents needed! I know that kindness and compassion is something that you're just supposed to have ingrained in you as a nurse, however, John not only displayed this on a consistent basis but in the moment, felt it necessary to remind us to take care of ourselves. Of course, as parents in our near-delirious state, that thought was the furthest thing from our minds. We felt like he was giving us permission to care for ourselves. It was in that moment we believed John cared about us as a family. As time progressed in the unit, he organized our son's care to be as minimally disruptive/agitating to him as possible. The whiteboards were updated daily to ensure we were aware of his plan of care. It wasn't until about 3 days into the hospitalization that my husband let it slip that I myself am a nurse. However, I'd like to share that since I am a nurse, I'd like to say that I know what encompasses a good one. I want you to know just HOW good this staff member really was during our stay. Having my child in the hospital was one of the scariest moments of my life. From the moment we arrived to the Pedi unit, you could tell the main goal was to deliver exceptional care to our family! Thank you with much love and gratitude.
