Karen Peters is an outstanding clinical nurse who is dedicated to Children’s Hospital Colorado and with providing quality care to children. She has spent her entire nursing career at Children’s, first on the Float Team and now in the Wheat Ridge Urgent Care. She is currently working toward receiving her PNP degree at CU.

Karen provides competent, compassionate care to all the children seen at the Wheat Ridge Urgent Care. She possesses a quiet confidence and has always been a “go to” person for difficult IV starts and other procedures. She collaborates well with all our providers and advocates for the children she cares for.

Not only does Karen provide excellent patient care, she advocates for children and the nursing staff through her participation and leadership on multiple hospital committees. Karen is Co-Chair of the Clinical Nurse Practice Council, which is the voice of nursing throughout the organization. Just one of her successes in this role was related to a recent cereal drive. This cereal drive was in collaboration with other Children’s Hospitals, whose goal was to provide as many servings of cereal for needy children as possible. Not only was this cereal drive a success – it was a tremendous success. With over 11,000 servings collected, boxes of cereal were everywhere!!! The President of Children’s Hospital of Michigan even sent a letter of commendation to Dr. Shmerling and Karen
thanking the CNPC for their participation!

Karen is a member of the Nursing Professional Practice Review Committee, a Magnet Champion, and a DAISY and Nursing Excellence Award committee member. On a national level, Karen is on the Pediatric Nurse Credential Review Board and writes exam questions for the ANCC Pediatric Nursing Certification exam.

It is for these identified reasons -her years of consistent compassion and caring for both the children she personally sees as well as those in need throughout the area that we have nominated Karen Peters for the DAISY Award. Through her extensive involvement with projects and committee work that champion the role of the professional nurse, she has set a benchmark for involvement for all professional nurses to aspire to.
