My wife has been in the BMT unit for nearly 4 weeks for treatment of acute leukemia. There is not just one situation that stands out in our minds, as this nurse displayed DAISY award qualities every single time we were in her care. First of all, she demonstrates professionalism at all times. She is also very knowledgeable and is always ready to answer any questions regarding treatment and side effects, and she would also give us information about what to expect during each step of this process. She is so compassionate and caring. She was not only concerned about our medical needs, but our emotional needs as well. Her genuine concern about my wife was evident by her encouraging words, her holding my wife's hand, and her sweet smile that was always present. She always goes above and beyond. There are so many instances that I can't name them all. One morning recently, I went down to McDonalds to get breakfast and she sat with my wife while I was gone so she wouldn't be alone. It is things like this that make a huge difference! This journey that we have been through has been extremely difficult. I am not sure that she realizes what a huge impact she has made in our lives during this trying time for our family. She has truly been an angel and we thank God for her. We would love for her to receive the DAISY award, so she will know what a difference that she makes in the lives of others through nursing. We have received great care from everyone in the BMT unit, but this nurse definitely exhibits the extraordinary service that deserves to be recognized.
