Mckenzie was an exceptional nurse during our stay. I was a high-risk patient with preeclampsia, swelling, and high blood pressure and needed a lot, but Mckenzie never once complained. Mckenzie went out of her way to make us comfortable. I delivered twin baby girls and because of my blood pressure being so high, I was unable to go sit with my babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) because of the doctor's orders to check my blood pressure every 15 minutes, 30 minutes, or every hour. I expressed how much I wanted to see my babies and Mckenzie made it possible.
Once we got the protocol to check blood pressure every hour, Mckenzie helped us get down to the NICU and got us situated and told me to enjoy my babies. She would track the time and come down to check my pressure when it was time. She told me not to rush and she'd make sure we followed doctor's orders.
Because of this, I was able to kangaroo my babies, attempt to breastfeed, and just spend quality time with them. She allowed me at least three hours with them and the NICU nurse was even impressed because she had never had a nurse do that before. She noticed having time with my babies was even helping my blood pressure so she did what she could to accommodate us and has truly made this a pleasant stay. What a blessing to have her as our nurse.
