Cindy took over care for a patient who had recently delivered a full-term infant who did not do well immediately after delivery. The infant was in the RNICU and the outlook was not good. Cindy finished recovering the patient and then escorted the patient and her husband (father of baby) upstairs to the RNICU to see the baby. Cindy stayed with the parents as they held and bathed their baby for the first (and last) time. Cindy stayed with the family in the RNICU and supported them through what was likely the most difficult experience in their lifetime. Below is a note a fellow RNICU wrote about Cindy:
"I just wanted to let you know how thankful we were for your nurse Cindy on Thursday night. She stayed on our unit for most of the night to help her patient through an unthinkable event. She had developed a good relationship with the patient and having her there to help us communicate with Mom was invaluable. It also eased our mind that she was taking care of Mom's health while we were attending to the baby. I just wanted to make sure you were aware of what a great job she did during an extremely hard situation."
I can't begin to imagine being in this situation, but I can imagine what having a nurse like Cindy would do for me in this situation. She is an invaluable member of our team and deserves recognition for going well above and beyond her duties and responsibilities.
