My husband had outpatient surgery at Maimonides Medical Center. It was a trying experience with many mishaps, but there was one nurse in the PACU who stood out as extraordinary. Trudy Mullings, who works the night shift, spent several hours with us as my husband recovered from the procedure. She did all she could to help him feel more comfortable and to take care of everything he needed.
More importantly, she patiently explained the process of recovering from anesthesia and surgery, so he could understand what he was experiencing and not feel as frustrated and helpless. Trudy found a place for my son and me to sit, so we could keep my husband company through the evening. She showed us that she truly cared about his recovery, and she understood that support for the family is important. It was a very stressful day for all of us, and Trudy helped us through the concluding hours of our visit.
