The birth of my nephew had been a roller coaster of emotions for my sister and her husband; from excitement and anticipation surrounding the arrival of their firstborn son, to anxiousness, worry, and fear when she learned she was preeclamptic (and subsequently being induced nearly a month early as a result).
Her ultimate delivery appeared to produce a happy and healthy baby boy. Other than a mild case of jaundice, nurses and other hospital staff assured her there were no other complications and that the baby was ready to be discharged.
The night before their scheduled discharge, however, Kasey Murphy's care and attention to detail may have saved my premature nephew's life. Kasey identified some brief periods of apnea during her routine checks, ultimately leading to the baby's NICU admittance where he'd receive the attention and care needed prior to coming home.
Our family can't thank Kasey enough; her astute analysis, passion for her work, attentiveness, and thoughtfulness for her patient's health can never be repaid. Her assessment alone saved my nephew from a potentially serious situation. Those that are fortuitous enough to end up in her care are undoubtedly in the best of hands.
