Elsa cared for my father from the beginning of his month-long health crisis in the ICU.
He was an artist. As an artist herself, Elsa was able to express her interest in his work and discuss their artwork. She demonstrated an interest in him as a whole person, a creative soul and not just a patient. This contributed to his sense of well-being and dignity. Her kindness and compassion combined with her competence were deeply appreciated.
Sadly, after less than 12 hours from being discharged and moved to a rehab facility, he was returned to the emergency room and the ICU. Elsa's kind face was a welcome sight for all of us in that very difficult moment, as we faced "the next step". He firmly insisted that he did not want any more interventions and wanted to proceed with "comfort care" only.
Elsa helped us proceed with that process, with such compassion and care. We were all so grateful for her presence, throughout this time.
