We were sent home in November of 2016 and were blessed with having January be our nurse for our son who was awaiting a heart transplant until Aug of 2017. During this time, January came three times a week and quickly became part of our family. Our son's face would "light up" when January walked through the door. She performed PICC dressing changes once a week with us for approximately 28 weeks. Our son not only never had a line infection, but she always took time to pad his skin and meticulously care for any irritation we may have found. Everyone, Doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners in the hospital were astonished that we were PICC infection free for over 8 months. She also was amazing about communicating with us when she was coming and if anything was going to change.
Bottom line, she came when she said she was going to come and was always prepared with everything she needed. We credit January in keeping our son as healthy as he possibly could have been when he received his heart transplant. Finally, throughout our journey with our son being in-patient for months at a time, we have encountered close to 100 different nurses. January was the most caring and genuinely would go out of her way to help my son in any way she could.
