A patient on the psychiatric ward began to quickly escalate. Jeff immediately and calmly approached the man in attempts to calm him down. The client ran up into Jeff's personal space screaming demeaning remarks, threatening to beat him up, and tear the unit apart. Jeff calmly began walking with the client, able to see beyond the hostility with sincere compassion. Jeff walked with the client and then got him to sit down and share - deescalating the client, maintaining everyone's safety all while addressing the client's needs. Jeff was exemplary in his ability to see beyond what the client presented to truly meet the client's needs. That's a gift and someone I want to keep working with.
