Amy is an outstanding nurse. Amy shows caring, compassion and empathy every day. Recently Amy had a patient who was not doing well. The patient verbalized several times he was dying and didn't want to be left alone. Amy stayed at his bedside listening to his concerns and holding his hand. She only left his bedside for short periods of time to check on other patients, but when she left she made sure someone stayed with him while she was gone. In the middle of the night Amy decided she needed to find a way to get a hold of his family as the patient was requesting his sons and his wife. Amy was able to get a hold of his son, who came in, but she still needed to get a hold of his wife. He was deteriorating, and Amy was concerned he might not make it through the night. Amy was determined that the patient get to at least speak to his wife. After some research Amy was able to find that his wife was in a skilled facility. Amy called the facility and was able to connect the phone call to the patient. The patient was finally talking to his wife. Amy made sure to give him as much time as he needed, but continued to stay at his side for support. The words exchanged between husband and wife were beautiful. The chances of his wife making it to see him were almost impossible, but Amy made sure they at least were together by phone. This is just one example of Amy's compassion. She takes the time to get to know each of her patients, even if they are only here for the night. Amy has the ability to make each person feel special. She is always willing to help, no matter how busy she is and does it with a smile on her face. She treats everyone equally and is a great advocate. I could go on and on about Amy and how awesome she is. CSU is truly blessed to have her on the unit.
