I believe Gretchen is overdue for a DAISY Award. She's one of the nurses who go above and beyond for her patients and peers alike- and when recognized, says she's "just doing her job".
Night shift employees don't always hear how much they are appreciated because our patients sleep at night and the faces they see more often are those during the day. However, I hear Gretchen's name from patients and their families more than not. She always seems to know her patients on a more personal level, and they love to have a conversation with her.
A few things Gretchen's patients have said, "I could tell she actually cared if I was hurting, she wasn't just here to hand out some pills"; "She explained things to me as if I was her grandma, I think she knew I needed more time to understand." It is Gretchen's compassion and love for nursing that makes her a true DAISY Nurse.
