A veteran showed up in SSC at the end of the day without an appointment. He states his PACT team told him to stop in to see if someone from ortho could help him. He was quite upset. Heidi took the veteran into a room for privacy. He stated he has severe back pain which he was unable to rate on a pain scale but states it has been getting worse over the last 2 months. He was unable to get an injection for his back as he was on anticoagulation medication. He made a statement of suicidal ideation due to the inability to handle his pain anymore. Heidi sat with the veteran and allowed him to vent and kept asking questions as she felt there was more going on with him. He was crying off and on and after some time, he did reveal that he had a suicide plan. He stated that if he was unable to get the help he needed today for his pain he planned to go home and park his car in the garage and leave it running. Heidi quickly called a co-worker/veteran with similar back issues to talk with the veteran while she called Mental Health. The veteran was subsequently admitted to MH for the care he needed. Thanks to Heidi for taking the time (not caring that she was still there 45 minutes after her end of tour) to be sure he got the care he needed.
