After having a mild stroke that was caught in the Clinic where I receive my care, I needed to be seen by a Cardiologist outside the VA as soon as possible and I went to the NVACC room to speak with Nelda Martinez about getting a voucher. She was very welcoming and immediately gave me her phone number so that I could call the next day if I had not heard from the private sector cardiologist. I did not hear from them, so I called her, and she immediately sprang into action and started working on getting me an appointment. I was very worried as my condition was life threating. Nelda, sensing my anxiety, sat with me and explained the processes and was very diligent and got me an appointment in two days. I feel that her diligence and understanding saved my life. I had surgery and I am doing well. That is why I feel that she should be recognized for her compassion and caring.
