Kevin goes above and beyond for his patients every shift. He is truly the definition of patient-centered care. This evening, I witnessed him advocating for a patient who was in a lot of discomfort, suffering from and ileos. After calling the resident many times, insisting on decompressing the distended patient, hours of the patient vomiting, he got an NG tube placed for this patient. The RNs on the unit we work do not place NG tubes often and usually wait for a resident. Because the resident was busy, he decided to place the NG tube himself because he had done the procedure before. At that time, I watched him grab 2 newer nurses on the unit and take them into the patient's room. He wanted to use this opportunity to also provide teaching. I was so impressed. He guided a novice nurse through placing the NG tube successfully. After obtaining a chest x-ray, the patient immediately put out 600 ml of caustic fluid and felt much more comfortable. The resident came to the floor and personally thanked him for his persistence and good judgment and the new nurse was so proud of her latest achievement.
