I am nominating David for the DAISY Award because I think he was exceptional. I am not sure this letter will really portray how I feel about David and the care he gave to my husband and me. My husband's brain bleed was traumatic and he remembers very little of his time at Providence, but I remember it all.
David's mannerism was outstanding. He spoke clearly, with a tone of knowledge and kindness. I never had to figure out what he was telling me. He went straight to the point and didn't beat around the bush which I liked. He always knew the right time to pause or to give me a minute to catch my breath. He told me what he was doing and giving to my husband so that I always knew what was going on. If I had missed the doctor he would explain what was said. He always asked me how I was doing and if there was anything I needed. He was encouraging to me and my husband. He spoke to my husband often and explained what was happening. It was the little things that really made the difference. From making sure he used the hand sanitizer and washed his hands to cleaning away a dirty tray, even when he came by just to visit when he wasn't our nurse.
David made sure I was able to speak to the nurse for the next shift every day before my long drive home. I really don't know how to express the compassionate, no-nonsense care that David provided. He has truly found his calling. I hope and pray he has a blessed life and a long, successful nursing career. I am a better person for having met David.
