My son had Elizabeth as a nurse for an overnight shift before a scheduled surgery in the morning. My son was on Golytely as the surgery was a colonoscopy. All night long Elizabeth attended to him meticulously with regards to diaper changes and medications. Of course, all of my son's nurses on the 8th floor did this as well. However, Elizabeth showed extra care and concern to me, as his mother. I had numerous concerns with regards to medications, procedures and overall requirements for my son's safety during the surgery. She recognized the medical complexities of my son and his history, acted professionally and in a conscientious manner. But, most importantly, she listened to me. As his mother, I obviously have valuable and pertinent medical information about my son that only I would know. She listened carefully to everything I said, which truly showed me her professionalism as a dedicated nurse. It gave me reassurance and a sense of calm before we were taken into the surgical unit.
