In 2011, Bonnie was the nurse assigned to care for B in MOSU. While caring for B, Bonnie learned that she had a dog named Girly that she was terribly worried about because she didn't have anyone to feed her or give her water while she was admitted to the hospital. To ease B's concerns, Bonnie decided after work to drop by B's house to check on her dog and provide her food and water. Their friendship continued after B was discharged from the hospital. Bonnie would check on her frequently and whenever B got admitted to the hospital, Bonnie would always make sure to take care of Girly. Over the next few years, Bonnie and B's friendship blossomed, she would help B with her grocery shopping, appointments and around her home. As their time together increased Bonnie's girls and grandchildren were also able to get to know and share in the care of B.
A few years ago, B had fallen at home and broke her wrist. She was a very feisty and independent lady and didn't want to go rehab, so Bonnie decided to be a true friend and stayed with her for two months to care for her while she recovered.
This year in June, B fell again, and she immediately called Bonnie first before calling 911. Bonnie met her here at Banner Ironwood and stayed by her side until she was transferred. Bonnie spent as much time with B through this time as she declined. Sadly, B passed away, but Bonnie has kept her promise to her friend and she has adopted Girly to be part of her family.
Bonnie's true passion for nursing extends beyond caring for the patient in the hospital, she embraces the holistic nursing approach and goes the extra mile to make sure all her patients are well taken care of even after they are discharged. Thank you, Bonnie, for providing B with such wonderful patient care and developing a friendship which impacted her life significantly.
