Without any doubt, Rapid City Regional's professional nurse, Penny Hanna, displays compassion, kindness, security, trustworthiness and passionate care.
This September, I spent ten days on the third floor. Part of this time Penny became my patient-care nurse. Penny kept my morale high but also I became aware of how she lifted the spirits of staff members. I observed how she implemented her many years of knowledge not only for patient care but also as a born educator. She patiently utilized her extensive nursing skills to teach her students to perform effectively. She transmitted her radiantly positive personality to the staff and to her patients even when everything was not going well. She never made me feel that I was taking up too much of her time nor did she ever belittle any questions as being irrelevant.
When my daughter and granddaughter from Colorado drove up to visit me, Penny cordially welcomed them when they entered the elevator even before either knew that all three were headed to the third floor.
Since I am claustrophobic and had been placed in a non-view room, Penny helped get my room changed when one was available. This change displayed how she is aware of other problems a patient may have besides the ones being treated.
