Recently, we had a patient with a bimalleolar Fx. She was to go to the OR late in the day. She has metastatic cancer and is/was on the 8th floor, receiving Chemo Rx. She is under droplet precautions regarding RSV, thus could not come to the block room. Then turns out she was going to be deferred until Saturday due to schedule constraints. I wanted to get her block done for pain control but isolation procedures were an issue. Becky suggested that it may be able to be done in the PACU isolation room. She said she could staff us if it was okay with the PACU. Becky set the whole thing up, received the patient as well as providing care during and after the procedure in her typical quiet, kind, and gentle manner. The patient got great pain control and relief.
Without this kind of positive thinking and effort "we" would not have been able to provide this care. This occurred late in the afternoon. It was a novel and original thought and care plan for which she was totally responsible. The result was very positive for the patient and her family. It's simple, remarkable caring and most kind.
