I delivered my son three weeks early and had quite a traumatic delivery experience in regards to my health. After he was delivered and I was admitted to 7 Center, I met our night shift nurse, Ilanit. Being a nurse myself, I knew Ilanit was special. Right away she noticed his respirations were high and her instinct to check his blood glucose set in. He was hypoglycemic and needed gavage feeding. She and the charge nurse had to gavage feed him a few times and he was constantly checked on.
I was bedridden and on a magnesium sulfate drip, so I felt helpless and terrible. Ilanit sat with me holding my son next to me so I could be near him, helped my husband as he changed his son's first diaper, taught my husband how to swaddle, and kept our minds at ease each night. She treated me like a patient, not a nurse, which I appreciated so much. We learned SO much from Ilanit. She even offered to hold my son under the bili lights and bili blanket as long as she could, just so my husband and I could get some rest.
I could go on and on about how wonderful Ilanit was and is. My husband and I cried the day we were discharged and wanted to take Ilanit home with us because we had no idea how we were going to survive without her. I am a DAISY Award Honoree, and I know what this award symbolizes and what even being recognized means. Ilanit is so deserving of this recognition!! We thank you from the bottom of our hearts, Ilanit!!
