Lindsey received her DAISY Award from Sue Visser, MSN, MHA, RN (on the right).

“Lindsey participates in the development of unit base council practices. She exemplifies a proactive critical nursing practice, and is always available to assist the other staff. Throughout each day, she maintains an enthusiastic and energetic countenance. Last week when the inclement weather came and the staffing coordinators were looking for volunteers, Lindsey was the first one in the Intensive Care Units to agree to stay overnight. This is only a single incidence of the way Lindsey gives of herself to get the job done. She is also an outstanding preceptor, taking the role seriously - allowing the preceptee to gain as much as experience as possible.”

“As a formal leader, Lindsey serves as a preceptor for novice nurses orienting to the critical care setting, as well as for nursing students on their clinical rotation through the intensive care units. In addition, Lindsey served for 2 years as Chairperson for the unit based governance council (UBC). Lindsey's passion for excellence is evidenced by the number of novice nurses who request her as a preceptor. Lindsey’s skill to guide the novice nurse in providing evidenced based care is highlighted by her calm manner and willingness to listen to her preceptee. Her role as preceptor and chair of the UBC has provided numerous opportunities for Lindsey to model the healthy work environment standards of skilled communication, true collaboration, effective decision-making and meaningful recognition. Under her guidance, the UBC held robust discussions seeking out ways to improve collaboration between the day and night shift as well as promoting meaningful recognition. Lindsey’s contributions have enriched not just the unit but also the health system through her calm influence and her ability to mentor others. As an informal leader, she serves as a compassionate nurse with excellent clinical skills who models professionalism.

“My father, from West Virginia, became ill while here and was in Mother Frances Hospital Intensive Care with a very serious condition. We met Ms. Langston when my brother and I flew in as she was the nurse assigned to care for my dad. Lindsey was extremely positive, attentive and helpful. Additionally, she displayed exemplary communication skills; answering many of our questions. I've always heard 'Everything is bigger in Texas" and while I am not certain of that, I am certain that Ms. Langston's level of care, professionalism and her friendliness left a BIG lasting impression on my family and me. When we needed it most, Lindsey was a "DAISY' to our family and we were/are grateful.”
