Today I had a lady who was being admitted to the hospital for COPD. She also had a husband on hospice who was dying on Street 4. Michaela without being asked called the Administrator on Duty (AOD) and arranged for the patient to be put on the same floor as her husband. As we were waiting on getting her admitted the family got the call that he was dying at that moment. Without hesitation, Michaela called the AOD again and got permission to put the patient in a wheelchair and bring her to her husband so she could be with him as he passed. Michaela held the patient so she could say her goodbyes to her husband. Michaela stayed with family and comforted them while they grieved. I feel she went above and beyond what was expected of her. She showed the patient and her family compassion while they were grieving their loss. Michaela made a big difference for this family. She is the definition of what the true heart of nursing is.
