Rachel Ramey
DAISY Award Winner
February 2011
Rachel Ramey has received three nominations for the DAISY Award.
She works with very challenging patients on the MVH Bone Marrow Transplant Unit.
First nomination:
Rachel goes far beyond what you expect of a nurse. She is one of the most awesome nurses I have ever had care for me. She is not just a nurse; she has also become a friend.
Submitted by Deborah Leach – patient
Second nomination:
Rachel is a very special person, so caring and always there when you need her. She is very friendly, answers your questions and explains herself well. We could not have asked for a better nurse to care for us. She always came into the room and asked if WE needed anything. It was comforting to know she was concerned about both of us. Thanks, Rachel, you are wonderful!
Submitted by Wanda and Mike Little – patient and family
Third nomination:
Here are two recent examples of Rachel going above and beyond for her patients. One of our cancer patients felt so terrible when she lost her hair. Rachel did a “Make over Day” for her and made her feel great!
Another patient was dying. Rachel was able to balance her pressor support so the patient would live longer and be able to say goodbye and I love you to friends and family, including her twelve year old son. She cared for the patient and family with such skill and compassion.
Submitted by Andra DeNise – co-worker
Each nominator checked all eleven criteria on the DAISY Award nomination form to describe the extraordinary care Rachel delivers every day to her patients. DAISY Nurses impact the lives of patients, their families and co-workers. What a difference they make for others!
