Melissa is one of our house supervisors and she does a phenomenal job. Once I tell you the type of individual Melissa is you will agree that she is a true DAISY Nurse. She is a gem who goes above and beyond each time she works. You get a sense of relief when you find out she is covering the house, especially on the weekend or holidays. Melissa is a thoughtful and selfless individual who jumps through hoops to get things done. I have tried to thank Melissa on different occasions and her response is that she is just doing her job.
About two or three months ago the facility had a tragic accident with one of our patients that involved nursing staff and ancillary staff. Everyone was emotionally and physically involved, and Melissa was right there providing support. She was just as affected like everyone else, but she did not stop and continued to do her job putting her own feelings aside to ensure everyone else was okay. This is just another example of the amazing job she does that sometimes may go unrecognized.
If you know Melissa you know she does her best work under stress, she doesn't get excited and has a calmness that makes you feel at ease in times of chaos. An example was during our flu season last year when day after day we were full to capacity and holding in the ER and getting calls from Kaiser requesting beds. She didn't get excited and calmly she got the job done. She worked her magic and was able to get patients transferred and moved.
As employees come and do their jobs, you find that very few have the workmanship and the aspects to far exceed your expectations and Melissa is one of those few. Her abilities and contributions are an important key to the success of our entire operation. I think St. Bernardine Medical Center is lucky to have her.
