Cynthia Sims is a Nursing Unit Supervisor in Coli Critical Care. She is a CCRN and has worked in Coli since graduating from nursing school 10 years ago. Cynthia is totally patient centered. She works hard every minute she is here attempting to help all of the staff get things done for their patients. She never sits still, is always working to make the unit better for us or for our patients. At the drop of hat, she will take over the care of one patient so that the RN can focus on a more critical patient. She never hesitates to step in, make sound decisions and provide support. She never allows any delay to occur in receiving patients into the unit and is committed to helping any patient in need of critical care services. She is kind, courteous and overwhelmingly intelligent and resourceful. She runs to the patient, the family or the staff to meet their needs. She is an awesomely calm person in emergencies and is the code blue responder. Cynthia has saved numerous lives as a result of her expertise. She recognizes physiological process easily, responds quickly and saves lives. She provides the utmost care to her individual patients, is comforting and very attentive.

Cynthia is also extremely compassionate. An example of this would be: last year we had a patient in our unit who was a critically ill elderly man. His wife was alone, no family in town, had no clothes to change into and no food to eat. Cynthia went out of her way and used her own funds to help find clothes and food for this lovely woman and got her into the Rathburn house for shelter. Cynthia is also a massage therapist and is consistently reminding us to remember our patients in a holistic manner. Last year she became a Holistic Resource Nurse. She is also active on our Coli Coalition shared decision making team and offers her support to our manager whenever needed. Cynthia is an awesome care provider and should be celebrated in any way possible.

If I or any of my loved ones were ill, I would want to have Cynthia at my bedside. It is an honor to work with her. She is an unsung hero that needs the recognition that the DAISY Award could provide. She goes far above and beyond. Our hospital is very fortunate to have Cynthia among us and our patients are deeply blessed by her gifts.
