Lisa is an RN who exemplifies every aspect of Nursing. The nurse/patient relationship is one of Lisa's strongest attributes. Lisa is able to identify patient needs and act accordingly so her patients receive the best care possible. Lisa's good judgment, compassionate manner and professional attitude make her stand out among the rest.
A patient recently commented in a note "It has been 23 years since I last gave birth and Lisa made a huge difference in my hospital stay. I was nervous and Lisa made me feel comfortable and infinitely better."
Lisa will go above and beyond and follow the chain of command if her instincts tell her to do so. Recently Lisa went the extra mile to obtain a Psychiatric consult for a patient who Lisa felt was showing signs of depression. After being seen by the Physician, this patient was able to be discharged with appropriate medication and an excellent follow-up plan for counseling, thus preventing a setback for this mom.
Lisa never makes patients feel like she does not have time for them. During patient rounding, patients consistently state "Lisa makes me feel like I am her only patient."
Lisa consistently leads by example. Due to Lisa's wide knowledge base and years of experience on the unit Lisa is a coach and mentor for other staff members as well as for Nursing students, Medical students and anyone who approaches her for advice or for her opinion. Her clinical expertise in all aspects of Mother/Baby are respected and valued by her co-workers. Lisa is one of our 'go to' RNs in the area of difficult IV starts and in obtaining blood cultures. Lisa is a true team player who at the drop of a hat will help a co-worker in need. Many times I have heard Lisa say "I can get that for you," I will take that next admit since you are busy" or "Can I help you with anything, you seem busy." I know for a fact that any member of the Mother/Baby team would say that working with Lisa is a 'gift.' Other staff members have made the comment "I am working with Lisa today so we will be okay."
Lisa has a heart of gold and is a friend to all. She listens if her co-workers come to her to help resolve a problem or just to vent about something going on in their life. They feel secure talking to Lisa, knowing that she will lend an ear and her heart while keeping their conversation private. Lisa involves the services of any other discipline whose input she feels will benefit the patient. Many times Lisa has involved Social Service, Mission and Spiritual Care, Dietary, Lactation, Bereavement Coordinator etc. to best meet the needs of her patients.
Lisa truly believes in our efforts to increase patient satisfaction by participating in hourly rounding and service recovery. Lisa frequently assumes the role of Charge Nurse and while in this role demonstrates effective communication skills and the ability to make sound clinical decisions. Some of Lisa's other accomplishments are as follows: Lisa helped find a better way to handle obstetrical emergencies by putting together an ante partum emergency delivery kit. She initiated the separation of medications in the refrigerator in order to prevent medication errors. She assists in making follow-up phone calls to our ante partum patients and serves as our POC monitor for blood glucose.
After all is said, Lisa's most phenomenal quality is her pleasant attitude, her daily smile, and her ability to find a good quality in everyone. Lisa can convince anyone that things will be okay!!
