I received a thank you note from a patient who told me how much he and his wife appreciated the care that Michelle Navarrette gave them while he was a patient in Day Surgery.
He was from out of town and very motivated to go home, however he had surgery late in the day and it took him longer to recover. Michelle stayed with him until 11 pm (2 hours after their shift and Day Surgery closed) to try to see if he would be able to go home. Unfortunately he was not able to meet discharge criteria and Michelle called the surgeon. They decided it would be best if he stayed overnight.
Michelle called admitting and was able to expedite an admission to ERU. She also helped his wife locate a hotel close by, called to make reservations for her and gave her directions. They identified that Michelle was caring and compassionate; “above what most people would do” to make sure it was safe for him to go home and also to care for his wife. Michelle is an extraordinary nurse and deserves the Daisy Award.
