Michelle is an Extraordinary Nurse who we are blessed to have working on our unit. There are several reasons why I believe she is a DAISY Nurse. The first thing is just merely her presence on the unit. Michelle always has a smile on her face and a kind word to say. I have cared for many patients where Michelle has been their labor nurse, and they all say she was sweet, kind, and supportive, and they felt lucky that she was with them. Michelle is involved in many areas on our floor. She joined the Maternity PFAC after the birth of one of her children, and now she is the sole staff member running the program. Besides volunteering an hour for the meeting, she has coordinated fundraisers and has developed an Amazon Wish list to benefit our patients. Michelle has coordinated many events on our unit such as a movie night for our patients and their children and a Halloween parade for the children whose mothers had to remain in the hospital. (They would have missed trick or treating otherwise). She has gathered treats and holiday socks for our antepartum patients. She has gathered personal supplies for antepartum patients- many of whom are admitted unexpectedly with no personal supplies. Michelle was instrumental in orchestrating an in-house wedding for a patient who was hospitalized for her wedding day. Michelle doesn't do this for the publicity (although she probably has done more for public relations than anyone else in the hospital!) Michelle does this because she truly cares about her patients and their families.
