Inelda was nominated by a patient's family:
Our family member was admitted post abdominal hernia repair with the expectation of a two day stay. 16 days later he was discharged. Inelda was one of many wonderful nurses that we had. She took care of us in the beginning of his stay, however came to check on us every time she worked.
Inelda exemplifies the WakeWay in everything she does. She is very thorough in assessment and did an excellent job explaining everything to a stressed out family. Words cannot express what her kindness meant to us. My father was the patient - he is 73 years old and has never been in the hospital more than 2-3 days. He developed on ileus post op, got himself a PICC line, TPN, lipids - the whole bit. My parents have been married for 53 years and this was very difficult for both of them.
The moment I realized I would be submitting this for Inelda was on day 8. We had been told dad may have to go back to surgery. My mom made it into the hallway where Inelda just happened to come by. My mom started crying and Inelda stopped what she was doing and offered words of encouragement. Nurses like Inelda that work at WakeMed, remind me of why I am a nurse and what it means to truly CARE about your patient and families. THANKS!
