Joanna was a perfect example of the type of nurse every patient deserves. I walked in to the recovery room where I would be prepped for my surgery (C section) not knowing what to expect and fearing the worst. Danielle (another wonderful nurse) helped to ease my anxiousness and prepared me for my impending surgery, she was wonderful but then her shift ended and in came another nurse (Joanna!)
Just as I was calming down I had to become adjusted to a new nurse! I couldn’t believe it I was so disappointed! But then Joanna continued to care for me and prepare me for the upcoming surgery. She did so with such patience, kindness and grace that I had no choice but to forget the fear I was feeling. I was so frightened about having to have surgery, especially having to be awake during the surgery, but Joanna found a way to calm me down to make me feel sane when my world was spinning. Her kind words and attentiveness were the remedy for my fear.
When we walked into the OR I again began to feel emotionally and mentally drained, it was then that Joanna stood in front of me and held my hands in hers and allowed me to cry like a child. She listened to my fears and continued to hold my hands and simply listened. I needed someone to listen and hold me while I cried. It was not her duty to console me in such a way but she did. She treated me like a human being and not just another patient. She was just what I needed at such a frightening moment.
I can never repay her for her kindness and goodness. She is what every patient deserves. Joanna deserves this and many other awards.
