Cherie has worked in the ED for many years and has worked very hard to bring successes and positivity to the department. She is one of the most selfless people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting, and she is clearly a huge asset to the department as a whole.
Earlier this year, Cherie was working as CSN. She received a very difficult phone call from our Interim Director's wife, H. She called to notify Cherie that our Interim Director, J, had passed unexpectedly, in his sleep. Cherie immediately sprang into action, notifying our leadership team, and leaving to go be with her.
Throughout the week, Cherie worked tirelessly with H, going through J's belongings, setting up arrangements, calling his physicians, returning their rental car, taking H out for necessities, and lending a listening ear and a shoulder to cry on. Cherie has truly been a rock for H in these difficult times.
Cherie exemplifies what it truly means to be a nurse. The care doesn't stop when leaving the hospital, it continues until all of our patients and their families are safe and secure. DePaul's Mission statement says: Through our Exceptional Healthcare Services, we reveal the healing presence of God. Cherie has definitely lived this mission! Even though H was not a patient, Cherie still considered her our DePaul family, and Cherie put her life on hold to help another.
