As a patient at Brigham delivering my first child, I could never have imagined the amazing level of care that I would receive from everyone I met on the Labor & Delivery team, but most specifically from Jenn Mosaheb. It may have been because of the nature of the role Jenn had in the delivery of our son, but remembering all that happened along the way, I know we could not have done it without her.
Jenn's extraordinary care began in the first minutes we met. She was very proactive, guiding me into different positions to help escalate the dilation process relatively quickly. When it came time to push, it became clear my son was in a difficult position that was not allowing his birth to progress quickly. Through this, Jenn provided alternate positions again to help me find comfort and continue to push. Most critical to me through this time, Jenn's empathy, coaching, and encouragement helped me to not lose hope as I pushed for nearly 4.5 hours. Though she never mentioned this, I could sense other members of the L&D staff checking in on Jenn.
As the hours passed, it seemed she had ignored all opportunities to take a break or even leave after her shift ended, so that any progress in bringing my son healthily into this world would not be interrupted. All along, I felt that Jenn had been managing my care in a very professional manner, but it was clear that she was also personally invested in ensuring I was ok. I felt now that I had a friend in the room and an advocate for the best interests for me and my not yet born son.
Though we ultimately did require some interventions to deliver my son, I know each step taken was necessary to keep us both safe. Jenn did everything possible to keep me comfortable and informed through each next step so that I clearly understood what was happening in addition to any risks, and I felt safe in her care the entire time. Anyone who has the privilege of having Jenn as their nurse should consider themselves lucky. She took what could have been an incredibly frightening experience and made it as positive and enjoyable as possible.
When thinking of my birth story, remembering the level of care Jenn showed for my family moves me to tears. I believe Jenn went above and beyond what was required of her role to ensure we felt comfortable and taken care of, and I would guess she treats all her patients in this same special way. I hope Jenn knows how positively she is impacting her patient's lives, she is beyond amazing and we are so grateful we met her.
