Stacy Spezia, RN
The Methodist Hospital
Houston, TX.
Nominated by: Johnie Leonard, RN, ED Director
Stacy recently performed an exceptional job in dealing with a very challenging patient. She made such an impact that the patient sent a letter to both the medical director and myself apologizing for his behavior toward Stacy. This has never happened in my tenure as ED director. The patient noted that Stacy set boundaries, and that while doing this, “she was still nice.” He commented that Stacy was a very "knowledgeable and exceptional employee," and that she should be both rewarded and respected.
He also said that Stacy was a "very patient individual,” especially while dealing with him. This is a great example of a nurse that made a difference in the life of a patient that was in emotional distress. I agree with the patient that Stacy should be rewarded for serving as a role model for how a nurse can set necessary boundaries, offer support and demonstrate our ICARE values.
