Although the nurse I am nominating is not a currently a bedside nurse, she is a DAISY in her role as an extraordinary Clinical Director. To quote, DAISY ‘nurses consistently demonstrate excellence thorough their clinical expertise and extraordinary compassionate care, and they are recognized as outstanding role models in our nursing community’.
Laurie Hartwig’s clinical expertise is amazing. She is always willing to assist her staff with addressing patient issues and in a pinch, provides a much needed set of extra hands – and a warm heart. If she does not have the answer to our clinical questions, she will track down who does and provide us with the information we need. She keeps us well informed in our staff meetings about what is going on system wide and keeps us in the loop with the ever-changing projects going on at Trinity Mother Frances.
She is always compassionate. She routinely boosts morale with her uplifting compliments to the staff. Through her actions she shows her genuine care and concern for us as individual people; we are not just ”staff", she makes us feel like part of her family. She put the ‘meaning’ into meaningful recognition when she provides reward and recognition. We know it comes with thought and caring, and is not just another thank you note or small trinket.
She has served as a professional role model for me and offers great encouragement as a coworker and a friend. She has been taking classes towards furthering her education since I have known her, and she successfully balances the demands of school with the demands of the job. Her ability to be flexible is astonishing. She has opened and closed units to adjust to changes in patient needs and organizational priorities. She was instrumental in revising roles and responsibilities of our unit to help us become more efficient. She champions best practices in flexing to meet patient needs through creative nursing roles.
I wanted to recognize her as a leader who inspires her staff to aim high and do their best for our patients as well as take pride in who we are as individuals!
