I nominate Rosalinda Munoz for the DAISY Award. Rosalinda is the epitome of what a nurse should be, wants to be and in her case is. I have worked here for 10 years and in that time have witnessed many of my colleagues do outstanding work every day. Rosalinda however performs excellent work every minute that she is here. Unfortunately, it was not until I witnessed her work as a visitor, that I realized exactly how fabulous she truly is. Then I began to pay better attention.
From the minute Rosalinda walks in to her patient’s room to introduce herself she makes them feel like there is nothing else going on. That the universe revolves around them and becomes completely involved in their situation fully. Whether it be breaking her back, literally, to help a new mother breastfeed her baby; or a woman in labor that needs help getting through each contraction, sitting by her side coaching her one contraction at a time, or the full term pregnant woman who comes in to triage with no prenatal care, on drugs, to whom she will treat with the same enthusiasm and care, never passing judgment.
I always knew that Rosalinda was a pleasure to work with as a co-worker, but I never really looked to see exactly how exceptional she truly is. She is the reason that our patients love their nurses. She is who we should all strive to be everyday when we walk in.
In addition to all of the things above, Rosalinda is a great teacher. She genuinely loves what she does and that shines through when she works with everyone. She is excellent with the residents and nursing students. She is patient, respectful and always enthusiastic to share her knowledge with those around her. She steps up to any challenge and is always willing to do whatever is needed of her, including using her fluent Spanish skills on a regular basis.
Rosalinda Munoz is truly excellent.
