I was recently a patient at Christ and was there for an abdominal hysterectomy. I was there for a two night/three day recovery period on the 8th floor of the hospital in the Women’s Health area March 15th – March 18th.
My doctor has always practiced at Christ and both of my children had been delivered there (20 and 17 years ago). When there came a need for me to have hysterectomy, I was glad to have my excellent doctor performing the surgery and based on my previous stays, having it done at Christ Hospital.
Well, both my doctor and the hospital were indeed excellent and the surgery and recovery have gone well. This was expected, and consistent with the reputation and past experiences I have had. What I am writing to acknowledge was a distinct and exceptional individual on the nursing staff that I consider to be representative of what I would wish all nurses and health care providers could strive for in their patient care.
However, as a patient, what can set a caregiver apart from the rest then is the manner in which the care is provided and delivered and the above and beyond efforts they take to ensure the patient has the best possible health care experience. This above and beyond manner in which I was cared for by Jennifer Russell; in addition to her obvious technical proficiency in helping my post operative recovery is why I am recommending her for the DAISY Award.
She was attentive to my doctors’ orders and simultaneously attentive to my questions and needs as a patient in a way that ensured a smooth and issue free post operative transition and allowed me to begin the dietary upgrades and discharge on the soonest timings with none of the potential issues that could occur if not handled well.
What set Jennifer apart was her pleasant and caring manner and never once was I made to feel as if I was inconveniencing her with any request or questions. Unfortunately, not so much at Christ, but certainly in my experience with health care providers in general whether for me or others, this is sadly and definitely not always the case. This standard of above and beyond supportive and personal care is consistent with and why I choose my physician, and what I look for in the care given by and health care professional.
Jennifer deserves recognition for providing a notable standard of care that includes and exceeds the best technical proficiency and demonstrates it is possible to do so in a personal and caring way! The Christ Hospital is lucky to have her represent them!
