There are about 1,000 great things that our team can say about Lauren. She always makes sure that her patients very well taken care of by making sure to explain everything from A-Z to each of her patients and their family members. She is a hourly rounding champion and was commended by a patient for "being on top of my care and always rounding on me¨. Her patients describe her care as "excellent" "amazing¨ "terrific¨ "exceptional¨, "professional¨ and "wonderful¨. A few weeks ago, I received a call from a patient who was discharged asking for Lauren by name. The patient called to thank Lauren for the care that she provided and for going the extra mile and delivering a power cord to her rehab that she had left behind during discharge from the hospital.
Lauren has been touted as "the best person to be around, not only because of how she is to her patients but as a co-worker." Her colleagues commend her daily for her interpersonal skills, as well as her team work. She is always the first person to jump in and lend a hand with a smile, even if she is drowning herself. This positive mood sets the tone and atmosphere for a calm, healing environment. The night shift reports that her positive energy carries them through their night even though she went home for the evening. She welcomes her co-workers with a smile and the best hug you have ever experienced in your lifetime.
In addition, Lauren has her finger on the pulse of what makes a cohesive team. By identifying that we work in a high stress environment, where collegiality and collaboration is essential, Lauren organizes team building activities for our nursing and physician staff to improve communication and collaboration. She also leads unit based council meetings and is the co-chair of the shared governance committee. In her spare time she tutors students and is a writer for the magnet certification. She was instrumental in creating our nurse/patient assignment boards with staff photo buttons to improve communication between the physicians and other care providers.
Lauren is truly an asset to the nursing profession and a true DAISY Nurse.
