Jenny was the nurse for a 70 year old woman who had a CVA and acute respiratory distress. The family was here with Jenny and had just signed a DNR for their loved one. The patient's daughter and her fiance were here and they told how they were to be married in October and how sad they were that her mom was not going to make it to her wedding. Jenny contacted pastoral care and Chaplain Ralph came up to the ICU to perform the marriage ceremony here in the ICU so that their mom could be a part of it.
From our Gift shop we got a beautiful white infinity scarf, a little vase with flowers (fake flowers) and a pretty headband and card. Even though the ceremony was not legal, the couple stood across from each other while the patient (her mom) reached up to grab the daughters hand while they prayed and said their vows.
I have to say I witnessed the most beautiful moment. Jenny went above and beyond for this family. I feel blessed to work with the most amazing nurses. What a blessing for the patient to know that its okay to go to heaven now because she got to witness her daughter getting married.
Thank you Jenny for all you do. You truly made a difference for this patient and her family.
