One of the qualities that I love about Farrah is her compassionate heart. She is respectful of patients and she spends time listening to them. One morning I followed Farrah (she is a night RN), she reported that one of our elderly female patients was worried about her shoes that seemed to have been lost during her transfer from the ER to our floor a few days earlier. This patient would soon be transferred to a skilled nursing facility (SNF) and she had mentioned to Farrah that her shoes were missing. On that same morning before she left, Farrah placed a call to the ER in the hope of finding our patient's shoes. Unfortunately, she was not able to locate those shoes. So I was surprised when at 9AM that same day, Farrah still in her work uniform, came into the patient's room carrying a plastic bag from Wal-Mart. What Farrah had done to allay our patient's worry was to buy her a black pair of shoes with an easy snap-on Velcro. Farrah did not only buy our patient a pair of shoes but also bought a pair of comfortable, warm slippers and a couple of pairs of socks. Our patient was elated. She did not want Farrah to spend for her shoes and she was willing to reimburse her but our patient did not have any kind of cash with her. Besides, Farrah refused to take any money from our patient.

Another time I saw and appreciated Farrah's compassion was when she was taking care of an elderly and perhaps slightly demented patient. The patient had been very anxious during the night and Farrah spent time with her assuring her and doing her best to make her comfortable. It was apparent that Farrah bonded with this elderly lady during the night. After giving report to the oncoming day shift nurses, Farrah clocked out but chose to stay for an hour to feed this patient. I was at a loss for words for the kindness and compassion that I have seen from Farrah. She is a gem and she stands above all in her dedication and devotion to the patients that have been entrusted to her care.

Farrah is also very hard working and will do her best to make the day nurses as less stressed as possible. There was a time that I followed her and I had a group of complicated patients, three of whom were bed-bound. I was impressed during report when she said that she had bathed all those three patients with the help of the night CNA and even some of the morning pre breakfast pills have been given. Wow! I know Farrah did all of those things for our patients but she did not realize how incredibly grateful I was for the excellent care she had provided to our patients. It sure made my day easier and considering that we only had 1 CNA that day just made her work so much more appreciated. I know that when I follow Farrah, that our patients are clean and comfortable. She works very hard and she engages even the patient's families so that they too can be involved in the patient's care.

Farrah has excellent communication skills. When she gives SBAR report, she covers the most important things about the patient and she is incredibly so thorough. Her nursing notes are also accurate and she tries her best to chart at the point of care.

The other thing that I admire so much in Farrah is that she constantly strives to improve herself. She is completely dedicated not only to her shift work, but she is also currently pursuing higher education to obtain a BSN and maybe in the future a MSN degree.

I have been able to speak with patients Farrah has cared for and I must say that they are all appreciative and grateful for her excellent nursing skills and her great bedside manner. I have not heard a patient complain about Farrah. What I have heard are all compliments for the incredible and excellent nurse that she is.

I believe that her above mentioned qualities more than qualify her to receive the DAISY Award. It is my fervent hope that you as readers of this nomination will dig deep into the meaning and implications of the words that I have written. This nomination is just a small glimpse of Farrah's good qualities not only as a nurse but as a human being. I have so much respect and appreciation for the work that she does on a daily basis. What a superb and excellent nurse Farrah has become!
