Dawn gives excellence in all aspects of care, but it is her compassion that drives this recognition.
Every time I work with Dawn she amazes me for the compassion and true holistic care she gives. As an RN on an everyday Acute Care Unit/CCU all nurses assess and address the complexities of patients' clinical needs along with their emotional needs. No matter how long it takes, Dawn makes each patient feel like her attention is on them and them only. Working with Dawn, I have seen not only her care for the patients but for their families as well, the ability to support and reassure them only adds to the patient's comfort.
When assisting Dawn with patient care and as I introduce myself as the Charge Nurse patients and families make a point of telling me the "wonderful care she gives". Every time Dawn cares for a patient whether on comfort or acute care she brings her experience to ensure pain, anxiety and concerns are addressed.
Once again today after Dawn came in on short notice, she was caring for an End of Life patient whose family had to make hard decisions to turn off the patient's vent. Dawn was in the room with the family and with the interdisciplinary team to ensure that family felt supported to come to terms with an incredibly difficult decision. As discussed above, Dawn came into work and began her shift ready to provide, as always, excellent care, support, and compassion for family and patient alike.
