Nicole brought a bouquet of happy face balloons and a stuffed animal for her patient who was angry about his cancer diagnosis and treatment. Nicole placed a few of the balloons at the nurses' station as to allow the patient see them from his room. She completed her morning assessment with the patient, and told him she brought in the balloons to cheer him up. Later on in the shift, Nicole brought in the stuffed animal.

The patient told a nurse leader he had been angry, but on this day he was thankful-for his family and life he shares with his wife, thankful for the hospital team caring for him, and most of all he appreciated Nicole. Each day until his discharge his attitude was that of appreciation.
