As she was leaving the hospital at the end of her shift one night, Dena noted a family member crying in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit waiting area. Dena stopped to talk with the lady, and prayed with her before leaving for home.
The family was in the waiting room the next morning and Dena stopped to talk with them on the way to the Admissions Discharges Unit. About an hour later, a gentleman I did not recognize came in to ADU and asked for Dena. Dena went to him and he stated "My father just passed away and my mother is asking for you."
Dena went to this family, offering support and comfort. She brought them around to an ADU room (more private area) and called a chaplain. Dena doesn't know these people. She has never met them before. But Dena, as she always does, saw a need and met it.
