Janet Knight was instrumental in lobbying for and initiating the Wound healing Center at NMC. Her Vision was clear; provide a setting where collaborative multidisciplinary wound care could be provided to Sussex County residents. Her personal touch, warm interpersonal skills, engaged listening skills, are only accentuated by her knowledgeable clinical skills that create the whole package.

Through this collaboration, she is able to formulate a plan that the patient and family can follow to facilitate optimum wound healing. Janet's specialty also includes the care of the ostomy patients, in both the Acute Care and Community setting, where she educates both the patient and family in the ostomy care and serves as a continual resource for them from that encounter forward.

She is very good at trouble shooting problems that the ostomy patients may have and inspires them to be creative in making the appliance adapt to daily living. She has empowered many caretakers to simply do what works.

In November 2014, the Wound Healing Center had a patient who confessed to Janet that he did not have a winter coat or much in the way of clothing as he was homeless and then living with a friend. Janet organized a clothes and food drive within the department for the patient. Staff brought in gently used clothing, coats, and bags of food and toiletries for the patient. The patient was overwhelmed at the generosity of the staff and expressed deep gratitude for the items.

Janet only saw the patient's need and immediate rallied resources to correct the issue; just as she has done for years, she developed a plan of care and executed it!
