An intubated patient awoke, became more anxious, attempting to communicate her needs to her nurse. Liana was very patient and understanding, taking her time to reassure her patient while trying to understand her needs. She even had the patient write down what her needs were. The patient tried sign language so Liana found me to translate. Liana soothed the patient with comforting words and reassured her she would do everything she could to help. The amount of time, patience and care Liana provided for this patient is just one of the many examples of why Liana deserves the DAISY Award. Her compassion not only as an RN, but as a person is truly rare and extraordinary.

Liana handled a difficult situation in a commendable manner. She showed patience and kindness through the whole situation; she went above and beyond in her efforts to communicate with the patient. The patient continued to express her anxiety, and the situation escalated when the husband went unconscious at the bedside. Liana remained calm, called a Code Down, while focusing on her patient's care, patiently trying to calm and reassure her. The intubated patient even tried to get out of bed. Once the patient was calm, Liana continued to provide the patient with excellent care. Liana showed her kindness and compassion in the face of a very chaotic situation. It was awesome.

A situation was being elegantly handled or diffused by a wonderfully dependable RN. A patient woke up' and was intubated. Liana patiently waited for the patient to write on a clipboard what she needed the patient began to get impatient and started cursing at Liana while writing on the clipboard. Liana still held the clipboard and let the patient vent. Never once did Liana lose patience; she was very calm & collected.
