We had an 80+ year old lady who had a joint replacement and was ready for discharge Christmas Day. She was going to Cedarcrest Manor SNF for rehab. She did not need to go by ambulance - just needed a car ride. Patient had no local family and she did not want to ask any of her friends to drive her on Christmas Day. I was in the room discussing this with the patient and Patricia was her nurse that day and happened to come into the room during this conversation. Patricia volunteered to come in on Christmas Day and drive patient to the nursing home. She left her own two small children and the rest of her family to do this. She is not only an exceptional nurse, but a truly compassionate individual.
