Shyla demonstrates all the values of ICARE; Integrity, Caring, Advocacy, Respect, and Excellence. She has a wonderful outlook and a positive attitude. Working with her every day is a genuine pleasure. Her deep concern for Veterans, families, and co-workers is evident in everything she does. Shayla always has the Veterans' best interest in mind. She, on numerous occasions, goes above and beyond her job description to ensure the veteran is comfortable and feels cared for.
Shyla has purchased meals for veterans and families and assisted them to feel comfortable in the hospital when their spouse is unable to go home. Many times, Shyla made calls to the business office, social work, case management, etc. to assist a veteran and or their family with needs at home and assist them with navigating the VA System.
I recently found out that this past November, just before Thanksgiving, Shyla assisted a veteran with his rent and groceries. She had been in contact with "the Walking Veteran" on Facebook and he told her he did not have the money to pay his rent for the week at a local motel. Shyla took her own money and bought him a bag of groceries and paid for the entire week at the hotel.
Shyla is always the first person to offer help to anyone. She is a wonderful representative of the nursing profession and displays our goals for veteran care!
