We recently had an elderly gentleman come in to the cancer center newly diagnosed with lymphoma. He was widowed and his children lived out of state. He was admitted to the hospital to initiate chemotherapy and I asked Kris to check in on him during his stay. She went way beyond this. She saw him at least once every day and would plan "dates" with him when they would talk and walk in the halls. I am certain she made a difficult and scary time much easier for this man.
This is just one example of why Kris should receive this award. She has come in to see patients on her days off, accompanies patients to appointments/tests and every single day goes way beyond the expectations of her job to make her patient's experiences easier.
