Ashley was my friend's nurse. He was cranky with her. When I came up here at 6 pm, Ashley was vexed with my friend but was still very professional. She is the first nurse I have seen who was stern with him but still showed compassion. She was telling him that it is for HIS benefit to stick to a diabetic diet, so he doesn't ruin his pancreas. Then she mentioned, "You know it runs in your family!" He said, "How do you know that?" She said she read his chart. My friend has been seen by many doctors and nurses, and Ashley is the first nurse who seemed like she really read the notes. Often people miss notes, even when they say they put a sticky note in the file. Then the next nurse comes in and I asked about the note, and they say they didn't see the sticky note. It is frustrating when the patient and family have to continually explain things. Not with Ashley, she thoroughly reads the file.
Then, Ashley's shift ended, but she came back for a second to put a note in the room. She said she has OCD and likes to make sure the next nurse coming on has all the necessary information. She is so dedicated and thorough and patient! I think Ashley is a great example of what a nurse should be.
